A friend was telling about the time she was at the Cheesecake Factory and ordered a hot chocolate and when it showed up, the spoon inside of it had a nasty chuck on peanut butter globbed on at the end. And to make matters worse it sounded like the manager didn't see much of an issue with that.

I think that definitely tops the charts of bad experiences but knowing Shinra folks like I do, I know you can top this so share away!

I was catching up with a girl and we were eating at this restaurant which had this outdoor seating area, which was really lovely truth be told. Problem was it was nice warm Spring-like weather and there was a heap of birds (finches, sparrows, etc) that would fly in, I guess attracted to the food and such. Anyway we had ordered and were wating a good half hour, maybe some more for some food to come and then one of the birds flying about shit on her spoon, and she just got up and was like "let's go".
    Kinda LOL.

Luckily the worst restaurant experience I've had was just slow and/or bad service. However, my sister's friend had a pretty gross experience while dining in Thailand. He'd ordered a bowl of soup at a restaurant in Bangkok, and he ended up fishing out cockroach that was the size of his large soup spoon. The waitress smiled one of those polite, fake smiles, and simply plucked the offending cockroach off of his spoon, and expected him to be satisfied with that and continue eating his soup (he demanded that she give him a new bowl of soup... if it'd been me, I would have demanded a full refund :blah:).

I so would not have eaten the other soup as that roach was probably swimming in before it was poured into his bowl.

Yeah, I was kind of thinking the same thing. I probably would have made a run for the washroom and unleashed breakfast at the thought of eating it. Hardcore grody.

I'm lucky as the worst thing that's happened to me is that my fries were a little bit cold or that my chow mein tasted slightly burnt. Even then, the food still tasted alright.

just terrible service from the waiter, the food was good, always low on drinks, she never came by, and when she gave us the check I thought she gave us a discount realizing her poor service, we ordered two fancy meals and dessert and the receipt was for two happy hour meals and no dessert, so i thought oh cool how nice of her. Well i put my credit card and when I got the check back, i was charged the full meal, no list item receipt in there, so i didn't tip her, stupid bitch. I was there for two hours too so hopefully she couldn't afford electricity and baby diapers that week and was living in a dark poop smelling closet

I never really had a bad restaurant experience. I got some steak once that was just a ball of tendons I guess, but I just sent it back and they gave me a new steak and thanked me for informing them their supplier was giving them inferior quality meat so they could take it up with them.

Receipt in the cheese of my bacon XL at burger king.

The missus had a bad turn at Pizza hut, ordered king prawn arrabiata - prawns were tiny, grey and cold. Sent it back. They microwaved it. Sent it back, got a fresh batch but it came with a dog hair in it.

Probably working in restaurants was my worst restaurant experience.

I think working at McDonald's when I was young led to some pretty bad experiences. I remember once I was cleaning a meat holding area, which used steam to keep the grade D patties seeming "fresh" and "moist" over long periods of time. Well, to clean this particular device, all you had to do was take the meat out, and put the cleaner in the water lines, so it steamed everything out. Pretty simple. You put the meat in the pizza oven for a little bit, walked away, and then went back and flushed out the chemicals and put the meat back.

One day we were doing this, I went on break. Someone came in for their shift, and filled the meat cabinet back up, not knowing the cleaners were circulating in it. I came back, told them the meat had to go, that it was contaminated with chemicals now. The owners of the franchise disagreed, as that cabinet held a lot of meat, and the profit of selling it was far more important than the potential illnesses from chemical exposure to the customers. I wonder how many people were sick from eating those burgers and Bic Macs, and never even knew it was because someone had willfully decided that their wallet was more important than the wellfare of the general public.

Don't you have the FDA for that?

I think the FDA is more concerned with creating regulations, rather than actually micromanaging every restaurant to make sure that their regulations are actually followed. Usually they give that job to miserable, overworked and under-appreciated former food service employees, and call them "health inspectors."

I was out drinking and ended up going to on of those Mexican food carts. I am a huge fan of food carts and Mexican food. So, I went to order some tacos from a local place and thought to myself this would be a good idea. I ended up getting to the cart, after an hour, and then proceeded to order my food. I got a pork taco and a chicken taco. I ate the chicken taco and it was fine, then I started to eat the other pork taco. I thought something tasted strange so I looked at it.. the pork meat had small tiny worms in it and I had just eaten them. I just through the food away and kept on drinking till I felt that I would not die from eating probably diseased meat.

Which brings me to another story. I was up in Seattle visiting friends (Wonko & some doctors). I, with a friend meet up with Wonko and went out to get some food. We ended up going to this Chinese place that was in the area. I ended up ordering some beef spicy food thing. The food was prepared some style I've never had and the meat tasted horrific. As I forced myself to eat it I started to feel ill. Eventually, I just stopped eating it and ended up puking very soon after. It could have been dog meat for all I would have know. Thank goodness booze can solve all my food problems.

 You know, I really shouldn't be surprised to hear that (maybe I'm not exactly surprised, more like I've been temporarily shaken out of my denial about what goes on behind-the-scenes at restaurants :S).
