Max Landis being son of John Landis (An American Werewolf in London, Blues Brothers), director of Chronicle which is out at cinemas nooooow. Anyway it's 15 mins long but well worth the watch, just to have a chuckle at some of the dumb ideas comic books throw out.
I'm posting in this thread to add this to my subscriptions and to remind myself to watch this later. Ignore this post.
Superman has the mindset of a frat boy, "Hey let's just punch each other until one of us passes out!' 'YEA!"
Heh heh I personally loved it but I know a few DC fanboys that found it annoying. I dunno, I thought it shot pretty straight and showed love for the source material, while bringing to light what was so ridiculous about it at the same time.
Watched it. It was pretty bad. It's the type of comedy I loathe where you can tell they're trying too hard to be funny (over the top movements, etc.), that it isn't funny. But I'm sure it's better than Chronicle is. Death of Superman killed death in comics? Really? Yeah ok. Anyway, I guess he felt he could make up for substance with celebrity cameos.
Dude I could create VOLUMES of information just taking down everything he says. I don't want to, but I will assassinate his opening argument just to satisfy you. His argument summarized: The first hero, can't believe he can lift a car, he has basic powers, retarded ramblings, etc. let me name characters who arrived 20-30 years later that have the same or more powers, etc." Firstly, comics were aimed towards children at the time. Sorry that Action #1 didn't have some dark Alan Moore or Frank Miller tones. Yes, Superman's powers were basic. Fact of the matter, nobody thought of doing it before. So it was a new idea. It wasn't magicians, detectives, cowboys, war, or ghost stories, it was a completely new concept. Does this idiot really expect them to revolutionize the genre at the EXACT SAME TIME they innovated it!? (And this coming from Chronicle's director. . .I seriously doubt Chronicle is gonna make ripples in cinematic history (Where as Superman created a fucking tsunami in comics history)? Wow, you listed a bunch of superheroes that have Superman's powers. Heroes that were a direct result of Superman and came along 20+ years later! And Captain Marvel was a fucking fawcett ripoff of Superman, NO SHIT he's got the same superpowers! Good point in making Superman look obsolete dude! Also, they're not struggling with Superman stories? Loeb, Morrison, Byrne, Millar, Moore, etc. have been doing wonderful things with the character. Of course any ignorant idiot who hasn't read anything about Superman because they don't even give him a chance (Like Landis) would think that. He's applying things that happened after the fact, to something that had never hapened before. Of course Superman's debut doesn't seem like much NOW, but you have to realize what it was like THEN. Let me create a little example to show how fucking retarded this guy's opening argument sounds: "Nobody gives a fuck about Television! You don't give a fuck about Television, even if you think you do! What's so special about television? Oh I can't believe I can watch movies in the comfort of my own home! Woah! That's impossible! Well since then we've kind of grown up, haven't we? We have instant streaming video on the internet via a computer. It's got limitless channels, it's in color, HD, and even 3D!" I could go on, Doomsday's a Hulk ripoff -who gives a fuck!?- Hulk's a Mr. Hyde ripoff! And this coming from a guy who rode his father's coattails? Max Landis is a fucking John Landis ripoff! Fuck you Sketch, look what you've made me do (I know this thread was maliciously aimed at me). I invested more than this guy warrants. I'm gonna go find Jerry Seinfeld and kick this chump's ass, then we're coming for you.
Definitely can't say I've read all of them but I used to read comics religiously and it is normally the serious ones that are the goofiest. The ones that don't take themselves too seriously are my favourites.
