There was speculation since Inception that Nolan would re-use one of the cast in Batman 3, but I think a good majority had their money on Joseph Gordon Levitt.
IGN's rumor mill which includes the following: Riddler, Hugo Strange, Deadshot, Black Mask, Hush, Calendar Man, Azrael, Bane, The Penguin and Clayface. First point - Every Nolan Bat movie thus far has featured more than one villian out of the rouges gallery, all the more reason why Toms casting while significant shouldn't be looked at as everything. Mind you he might be playing the focal villian just like Heath did, and given that list Riddler is no doubt still the sexy pick, but: Second point - Nolan has said that numerous time that the villian of the next movie might not be a "name". If Tom were to be playing Hush, Deadshot, Black Mask or even Azrael I'd be stoked. In any case I still think Penguin is a longshot, I know they've toyed with the idea of having Cobbelpot show up as some kind of arms dealer but it's never come to fruition and I doubt it will now. Bane would be nice if actually done right this time around, but I just don't see Nolan using that character. Also worth noting from the article with regards to plot and the possibilty of Catwoman showing up: Which in itself gives me the impresion that this movie could be some kind of interpretation of The Dark Knight Returns, or could at least borrow from it much like how it's predecssors borrowed from The Long Haloween and The Killing Joke.
One other note, albeit this is going into the "take it for what it's worth" pile - IMDB has a number of rumored actors listed to play the Riddler including Johnny Depp, David Franco, Neil Patrick Harris, and they list Joseph Gordon Levitt on the main cast page. But I'll believe the Riddler is in the movie when Nolan confirms it.
NPH as the Riddler would actually be ace. I can't really see him as a main villain, though. I never liked the Riddler much, at least not as the focal point.
Who is David Franco? anyways Joseph Gordon Levitt is great, and I hope the 3rd Nolan-directed Batman can at least match or possibly come within reach of the Dark Knight's greatness. I doubt it's gonna be as commercially successful but who knows, it might be amazing and the hype train may push it past a billion worldwide again. i would hate for nolan to push out a shit movie, tbh
I don't think Nolan is capable of pushing out of a shit movie at this point. I think Hush would be cool, but that's a pretty doubtful character to use for me. Possibly in a later movie though. I think an interpretation of The Dark Knight Returns would be pretty swell and could work well for Nolan's style. Not make Bruce as old as he was in the graphic novel, but borrow the idea about him going AWOL for a while and then returning once he's fed up with everything.
I love the Riddler actually. I would have rather have seen him precede Joker in the films cause I don't think he could live up to the presence that The Joker/Ledger had in TDK or the damage he inflicted on both the city and Batman, but the character itself fits within this cinematic world perfectly. He also has the potential to hit Bats mentally and also get closer to home than any villain that's preceded - this is a guy who could deduce his secret identity. If he was played up more as the serious obsessive compulsive egomaniac obsessed with cracking the Batman secret rather than the more theatric Riddler we're more familiar with, this could be good.
wondering if it'll play out like Iron Man where the name of the villain isn't important (Whiplash). Could be a number of things, but for guessing's sake, maybe Cavalier #2? I'd like to see The Riddler but that idea was running for the longest time. I don't know if they'll go that route.
He plays Bronson. Good actor, getting his name spread around Hollywood now. I couldn't see him playing the riddler to be honest.
Ok renamed the thread as the movie now has a name: Christopher Nolan names sequel and reveals which villain won't be appearing this time. So based on everything we've heard so far we're leaning more towards an unconventional/out of the mainstream villian for this one. The odds now go up for the likes of Hush, Black Mask, and Azrael while they go down for Penguin.
Look back though the thread, Catwoman is still a possibility (albeit as a rumor) but it was noted that they're in the process of casting the lead female.
Latest rumors on Hardy - He's Black Mask, Killer Croc or Harvey Bullock. One of these I can't see happening, take a wild guess which.
