Yep, it must be Ethiopia, at least the barren part. Another skeleton from an upright was found a while ago and it is one of a young upright female chimp around 3 and a half million years old. They say those creatures were man like from the waist down but still had the usual chimp monkey features above that. Now they know for sure the age because they imaged the skull and you can actually see the three teeth layers in the skull, the present one was in that 3 year old range. The region was still a lush tropical area in that particular time but now there are lots of bones and skeletons surfacing of all species that were active in that period. The area is a wasteland dry and dusty and rocky and leaves an archaeological footprint with the ground layers exposed in so many places, this latest find was found in a layer just above the volcano period which left a very deep ash and dust layer. Previous to the age the chimp was living, everything was under a gigantic lake larger than Lake Michigan ! I find this stuff to be very interesting but some things I don't buy into, for example someone holding a piece of jagged rock and trying to convince themselves it was a man made tool or weapon of some sort, that's a bit of a stretch. Now you can take what you will from this latest find but if you look at a regular monkey pelvis and one that this find represents you will see there are major unmistakable differences and in the size and proportion. For example they say that they evolved out of the need to conserve energy since a regular monkey or chimp expends 4 times more energy to move than a human would, that's using all their muscular features and articulation of the joints. Some say that they started this progression towards standing upright to reach food in the trees. They know they probably lived in the trees because it was safe but they were still walking upright in the trees, very interesting. Anyone have anything to add to this amazing story
Quest for Fire for the win, that movie was pretty cool, however I believe it was an accidental discovery of fire, probably someone with too much time on their hands and not having internet. He was probably screwing around rubbing two sticks together and walla, the world would never be the same.
