Desktop. It's pretty old. I mean it does the job for most things, which is why I've kept it for so long, but I've stretched it's capabilities as far as it can go so I think it's time for an upgrade.
definitely build yourself a desktop, it's piss-easy, you will save a ton of money, choose whatever parts you want for whatever your needs are, etc. fuck i wish i could justify building a new desktop for myself with all brand-new parts, but mine (when it works, lol) works more than well enough for what i use it for so far.
Nessaj you are like the dumbest most tech inept retard ever to be anywhere just go away and never give advice on anything, fucking seriously man.
still eating your pissed on cheerios Jay he's getting something new for wow, doesn't take the best shit to make wow look decent for the right price
Actually I need something with a boatload of RAM for graphical programs also, so it'll be pulling double duty as something which can run two big ass applications and WoW at near nth settings. I do want a laptop but after thinking about it, it's not as high a priority atm.
I built mine right before cata came out for 1100 I think and 200 of it was a copy of windows 7 and 200 was case, so 700 in actual hardware and it runs the game with every setting maxed out and no video lag to speak of. I have no idea what the FPS is because I don't care if it isn't slow. And I have a shitty video card. I'll be getting a new video card soon only because mine doesn't support DX11. I also only have 4 gigs of ram but have room to upgrade if I feel like I need it in the future. Home-built for 2 grand man you can build something insanely good... honestly though it would be a waste IMO. You can build a damn fine PC for 1k this year and then in 5 years when you need a new one build another for 1k.... or you can build a super bad ass one for 2k right now and still need a new one in five years.
Yeah, I think I'll get something beefy but not too over the top - but make sure it has enough room for upgrades when needed. The problem with my old one is that it was a boxed Dell and there's only so far you can take those PCs cause everything is kinda restricted.
I agree with this. So what kind of parts have you picked out sketch-a-doodle? I want to build a new desktop too since my motherboard on my desktop is acting up. I opted for a laptop since all I really needed it for was school. I can play SCII, The Witcher, WoW easily, Sims 3, and whatever but it does heat up a lot. I tend to stay away from games because I would hate to replace my video card. Probably more cost effective to buy a new laptop if it gets to that point.... yarrr... My partners for group projects always comment on how big my laptop is when I take it to meetings.... it wasn't meant for portability I just wanted to sit in my living room and watch TV while being able to go online too..... either that or I get a TV for my hobby room where my desktop is.
I haven't picked anything, just have some rough specs of what I want. I know a few places, I'll just go in and say "I want this" and they'll make it up. I'm not versed enough to actually order and put together a comp myself.
Dude it is REALLY not that hard. I had never done it before this computer... I spent like an hour online reading how to do it... ordered parts... put everything together, turned it on... haven't opened the case since that initial build because it worked fine the first time and is still working fine.
It's not that hard to build a computer from scratch. Plus, it will save you about 100-200 to gt them to build it. The Desktop I have now took 2 hours to complete with everything added (even the little nerdy blue lights). Youtube probably has a perfect step by step guide. Some places to check out. Ibuypower.com and NewEgg.com either of those sites will have random specials that can save you 10-25% off your total price. My friend bought a $1,750 computer from Ibuypower and it was at his house in less than a week.
Last time I was looking into getting a new desktop I checked into those sites - neither deliver here last I checked.
