Dropped it like a foot and it shattered pretty badly. I'm gonna try to hold out for the iphone 5 due out next month but am wondering if there's a kit I can buy online to replace the screen and get a few extra weeks out of it.

Yeah I told my friend to hold out for the iPhone 5 cause he wanted to get one, but I didn't actually know what functions it'll have over the 4 other than it was just a newer version. He's a dumbass though and has no patience so I think he got a 4 anyway.

I own no touch devices, really don't know much about them since I have no interest in using them. It seems to me the screens wouldn't hold up well to constant scratching and scraping, what are you people seeing, are they keeping a good appearance after lots of use. And I'm sure the bezel can be replaced, the best place to look would be e bay. The Game Creators just released their AGK. it ports one code source and compiles to all the popular devices, so a game maker has a complete complement of versions he can sell without all the extra expense and time involved. The cost is not much more than a night on the town!

You'd be surprised at how resilient the screens can be. They're not like regular screens where a scratch really does much. If you drop it on the ground, yea, screen's broken. For the most part, however, it's pretty good. I keep my phone and my keys in the same pocket and the keys don't easily scratch the screen.

Yes you can buy kits online to replace the screen.

I recommend getting one that comes with tools, come of the screws inside are TINY and I doubt most people own a screwdriver small enough to get them.

I broke the screen on my 4 and called a guy to come and do it, he came and replaced it right on my desk in front of me while I was a work. Took him about 10 minutes. It didn't look terribly difficult, you just have to know what to take out to get to the screen.

A guy at work changed his own 3gs screen once, his wifes as well (they break a lot of phones) and if I'm not mistaken on that model you can actually just take the screen right off. On the 4 I believe you put it face down and take the back off and work your way through everything inside to get to the screen at the bottom so it's more complicated.

There is a video at the bottom of that url that shows two screws and three ribbon connectors that come off in a certain order.

Doesn't Apple boast that the screen is made of the same material they use to make Helicopter windshields (At least the 4, not sure about the 3GS)?

So far my screen's been fine, but I haven't had it for too long.

Well if that's true and they still use plexiglass as they did in my day, you're screwed! plexiglass is not scratch proof, far from it, we had polish which had to be applied often to keep them from looking too bad. The main windshields didn't last long anyway, usually from flying into birds and fruit bats, also the 2.75s sent a lot of debris back into the ship. It took hours to replace a chin bubble and those were constantly damaged. I doubt it is the same grade that was used 45 years ago, it probably is a polymer mix of some kind. The new black hawks are over two times the size of a UH1 and the speed is also much greater so what ever they use has to be a lot thicker than what we had. If these phone screens shatter then they must be closer to glass than plastic.
