I Am Legend...Again It truly must be the end of the world By Scott Collura, February 17th 2012 http://movies.ign.com/articles/121/1218987p1.html Yeah this is right up there with the concept for the third Triple X movie featuring the return of Xander Cage, it's kinda sorta tricky to pull off, at least logically speaking, when the main character is already pushing up dasies. When the rumors around this one started up a few years back there was talk of a prequel ("I Be Legend") and the thought process was "Ok, well at least we'll get to see how NYC became a trainwreck and all the people mutating into Darkseekers", but now this concepts makes no sense whatsoever.
That part where his dog defended him then he had to kill him afterward is the number 1 saddest thing in any move ever. Has nothing to do with this sequel, but it had to be said.
It would be interesting if they just did a reboot/retelling (Kinda like they're doing with Spider-Man and Ghost Rider). Otherwise, yeah, how the hell do you make a movie that isn't a prequel? Unless he's just there in flashbacks?
They've yet to do a movie that's fully loyal to the book and give the original reason why he was a legend. Will Smiths performance was terrific, the CGI excess and the dumb ending took it down a good number of notches.
I agree completely with both of you. The book I am Legend really gets into how a person could survive in NYC totally alone. There was no reason as to why Neville was a legend while in the book he is because He is the last human on the world. The movie's ending was horrible and the alternate one made even less sense. I also don't understand why they changed the traumatic event that happened to Neville. In the book, the event made sense and also helped to tie in the plot to his situation. In the movie it was just some tacky air crash, really?! This movie is one of the prime examples as to why I can't stand Hollywood. They had the perfect material in front of them but they just butcher it all.
Actually Her I always though the reason Neville was a legend was To the vampires he was the "monster" coming to hunt them in their sleep, the whole role reversal thing, to the vampires he was a legend. I though that was the point of the whole "I am a new superstition entering the unassailable fortress of forever. I am legend." line at the end.
I thought the Will Smith version was great, one of the better editions I've seen and I actually saw the Heston version as a kid.
