So a friend just gave me Google TV and I want to know what type of stuff there is to do (Other than watching Youtube videos on your HDTV). Unfortunately I don't have an HD Receiver for my DishNetwork box, so I can't have Google TV hooked up simultaneously with my TV service (Might fix this later). Anyway, what are some things to do with this thing?
Maybe I should Google it on my Google TV. I know it has a netflix and amazon movie feature, although Ihave neither. Right now, it's kind of just an internet attached to my computer (Which is redundant with my Laptops and Desktops). Too bad I could stream PS3 to it remotely or something like that (So I could watch my blurays on the other TV).
When did Google come out with this? I never heard of it. Um, how does it work, with a box like Dish or Direct TV? I'm super curious, I have Netflix but can only run it on my TV through my Wii because Direct TV doesn't work with Netflix. Also, how much does it cost?
It's supposed to be like having a TV with internet capabilities (Surf and Search as you watch TV, DVR, etc). Unfortunately, like I said, my DVR is not HD so I don't have the HDMI cable so I'm basically running Google TV and my DVR separately. Otherwise, it's pretty cool for Amazon video, Netflix, Youtube, etc. on your TV. I got it free, so not sure how much it is? Like in the $200-$300 range, I suppose?
We have HDTV so it might be something I'm interested in. Mostly for the You Tube and Netflix features. Yes, I can get that on my Wii, but I can only get it on one TV, unless I move the Wii from room to room and let's face it, it's not like carting a PSX from room to room. Hopefully Google TV works on multiple TV sets like cable or dish does. I'm guessing that it does from the sounds of it. I don't watch TV these days mostly because I can get Netflix on any laptop or PC. Very interesting. Jimmy. GET HDTV!
I have HDTVs, just no HD feeds (My DishNetwork boxes are standard definition ). Also, Wii isn't HD either, right? No HDMI port. So your Netflix would probably look a million times better on GTV than the Wii. All you need for Google TV is an HDMI port and an internet connection (wired or wireless). It does look awesome, even if the HDTV I'm using it on is only 720p.
eh, component HD is poop compared to HDMI. I had my Wii hooked up through component (I had the 3 system component cable for all systems) and it still looked like shit.
Just did a little research apparently I have the "Logitech Revue" from the Kevin Bacon commercials: I think I'm gonna look into upgrading my Dish receiver to HD. It's free now. . . the catch being it's free for NEW customers. I need to find out what existing customers need to do.
There are plenty of networks such as HBO, TBS, TNT, CNN, Cartoon Network etc in Google TV. You can watch any thing you want from such networks.
Call and bitch at them about how you're a long-time customer with them and you think it's bullshit that new customers are getting better deals while you have to pay for blah blah blah. They'll fold. They always do. There are so many options for cable/satellite TV service that they know you can swap over to a different company at any time so you can barter with them like you're at a flea market. Also, component is HD. You can do up to 1080i via component if the device will output it. It's not as good as 1080p but honestly most people wouldn't ever see the difference.
That's an idea. I called and bitched at XM Radio and they gave me 2 years at like $4 a month. Basically if you threaten to end your subscription they'll give you it dirt cheap. I know someone who works at DishNetwork, I'll have to talk to him. Been using GoogleTV for HBOgo, Maxgo, and Netflix and it's a pretty sweet device.
Yeah with most services that cost a monthly fee the only thing that gets you a better deal than signing up with them is threatening to cancel your subscription. My Uncle bought a new truck that has XM capability but he never really cared for it for the price so they'd keep calling and he'd keep telling them no it wasn't worth it to him. It took about a year but they finally got down to offering it to him for like 5 bucks a month so he finally agreed. Works like that for everything though. If money is involved... wait long enough and you WILL get it cheaper. Had a friend default on a credit card w/an 8k balance on it. He just avoided the calls from the debt collectors until one day he accidentally answered one. They settled for 2500.
Wow! Amazing news and I didn’t know about this before. I thank you for the information and I must try on it.
