Do you have any particular favourite haunts? If so, what makes them so special? Myself, I enjoy eating at a place called Chimes in Ashbourne. ( http://www.chimes-cafe.co.uk/ ) They do the most amazing food, since all their produce is local. (For exampole, their meat is from the local butcher, Ivan's.) They also sell hand made clocks there too, so it's nice and quirky. Other than that, a local Wetherspoons (Yes, I know.) that's based in the town's old Red Lion pub is a lovely place to eat. (Best steak and ale pies EVER!) They have private booths that overlook the church across the way and their bathrooms are huge and spotless. Not only that, but before it was a Wetherspoons, my great grand parents ahd their ruby wedding anniversary there. ( http://www.jdwetherspoon.co.uk/home/pubs/the-red-lion-ripley ) There's also this cute little cafe called Cafe Delight who do the best breakfasts. It's owned by a Turkish/Albanian family (Can't tell which nationality they actually are and I don't like to ask.) and it's so cozy. The plates are huge and the prices are really great.
I go to Ginelli's pizza for lunch once a week. It's cheap, nothing special. I live in a suburb so it's mostly chain restaurants. I went to this place called Lyon's Pub with a coworker and really liked it. Wish I had the chance to go more often, but babysitters are hard to come by.
What kind of food do they do at Lyon's then? Is it traditional pub food, or is it a mix of different things?
I don't remember what was on the menu. I'll go look it up in a minute. I just loved the atmosphere there. Very cozy, dark woods, a little loud and low lighting.
Nice. I know it's also a chain, but I lopve Frankie & Benny's. There's one in particular in Chesterfiel;d that I LOVE visiting. It's cosy as hell and has these lovely aluminium blinds over the big panoramic windows. I'll be going here for my birthday in january: http://www.moonsha.co.uk/ So I'll let you all know what it's like.
It's Jan 4th. So, I'll hopefully be taking pics of the place and of the food. Was considering trying their tuna sashimi.
