There's a topic brewing at AboveTopSecret about a comic that is creating some controversy in the jewish community because of the way portrays circumcisions as morally wrong given and a form of child abuse. Foreskin Man Outrages Jewish Community What are your thoughts? If you are circumcised - do you ever wish you weren't?
From what I've seen in america circumcision is not an entirely jewish thing, someone correct me if I'm wrong here I've just observed that it seems to be more 'the norm' than uncut penises are, which is strange and entirely not what I'm used to (culturally) as it's rather different in NI.
I'm not a doctor but from my point of view, unless medically necessary it seems pretty pointless to do it.
I think it's split 50/50 over there but yeah, I also noticed that for American's it didn't seem to be solely a Jewish thing. I think the tide on circumcision in the non-Jewish/religious community is turning against it however. Over here I dunno, I think it's the same. I do remember a girl saying that she had only seen cut wangs before, which surprised me. I haven't exactly gone around taking notes so it's hard to say what ethnicity/social groups has had thier tackle snipped and why. What I do know is that it seems that religious groups/families are generally more likely to do it, Jewish or not.
I just read Wikipedia (I know, haha @ me) and I have to say it seems stranger/more pointless than before. The cancer argument is stupid - it's not like you'd preemptively cut off your breasts because you could get breast cancer or never go in the sun because you could get melanoma. There are negatives that may be unwarranted. Judaism using the prejudice hook is a little bit strange as well - times have changed. People in Africa do it and it's barbaric (yes, it is a lot more extreme and unhygenic there so i feel bad comparing) but if you do it in your own society with equal reason -religion/custom- it's acceptable. Hypocrisy.
It's one thing to be against circumcision and debate as much, it's another one to draw a comic as racist as Foreskin Man.
It's anti-Semitic yes but not racist, Judaism isn't a race. More than that though it seems pointless since circumcision is not solely restricted to jews. IDK about that, now I know I've hardly met every american ever but general attitudes seem to be that uncut peens are disgusting which is a really horrible and pointless stigma to propagate.
Either way, not exactly pretty. lol If it was intended to be offensive and wasn't just a case of someone not thinking about the implications before picking up a pencil. I think people are a bit too sensitive - the guy is called 'FORESKIN MAN'. The work isn't going to be taken seriously.
"It is those who want to make a good showing in the flesh that would compel you to be circumcised, and only in order that they may not be persecuted for the cross of Christ. For even those who receive circumcision do not themselves keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may glory in your flesh. But far be it from me to glory except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. For neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation. Peace and mercy be upon all who walk by this rule, upon the Israel of God." Galatians 6:12-16.
Thank you for the excerpt. Most american men are circumcised. In regards to the cancer argument, not sure how true that is or how often men get penile cancer but studies by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) show that circumcised men have a slightly lower risk of contracting HIV than their non-circumcised peers.
I think it's younger unenlightened girls who seem to think that, or at least what I recall. Now days I dunno, I think as the generation ticks over there's less of a "eww" stigma to it because not only does it seem more accepted (which is hilarious since it's natural) but there seems to be a larger trend against it than once was, who wouldn't do it to their own children.
Again, I haven't seen anything personally suggesting that since I don't hang out with young girls or basically anybody under the age of 21 who isn't an in-law. =p What's hilarious is I'm actually seeing pro-circumcision attitudes from men, there is a certain "I got it done and I'm ok" attitude with young fathers regarding their sons, coupled with the perception that no woman will go near a dick that still has a foreskin. I really hope that au-naturale penises become more accepted because the snip-happy perceptions here kind of freak me out a bit. I'm against any sort of body modification that a person cannot consent to. edit: how could I forget? I actually know someone who didn't want her son circumcised but the hospital did it anyway. Messed up, no?
When my second son was circumsized at birth, the hospital brought him back to me with band-aid and gauge wrapped around him. They told me it bled "a little" more than normal, and I didn't think anything of it. When I took him to his first pediatrician appointment, the doctor opened his diaper and had a look of horror on her face. It mortified me, and when I told her what the hospital told me, she informed me that it must have bled a lot, because they had put the clamp down too far. He is perfectly fine now, and I make no regrets about having either of my kids circumsized. I will just be more careful on which hospital I have children in. Personally, I think circumcision is the more hygienic way to go, because the foreskin has been known to cause more infections. I don't have any religious reasons for it, I just think it's normal.
I think the whole "circumsision = cleaner" thing is a bit of a exaggeration, since the function of a foreskin in itself is to protect the head of the penis. I mean, if you actually wash yourself more than once a week you're fine.
So when you are the shower, do you have to get an erection to clean under the foreskin? I'm just curious, seeing as I do not have a penis.
